About Prayagraj:

रेवा तीरे तप: कुर्यात मरणं जाह्नवी तटे।
अर्थात तपस्या करना हो तो नर्मदा के तट पर और शरीर त्यागना हो तो गंगा तट पर जाएं। गंगा के तट पर प्रयागराज, हरिद्वार, काशी आदि तीर्थ बसे हुए हैं। उसमें प्रयागराज का बहुत महत्व है।

प्रयागराज भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्वी भाग में स्थित एक नगर एवं प्रयागराज जिले का प्रशासनिक मुख्यालय है। इसका प्राचीन नाम प्रयाग है। यहां हर छह वर्षों में अर्द्धकुंभ और हर बारह वर्षों पर कुंभ मेले का आयोजन होता है जिसमें विश्व के विभिन्न कोनों से करोड़ों श्रद्धालु पतितपावनी गंगा, यमुना और सरस्वती के पवित्र त्रिवेणी संगम में आस्था की डुबकी लगाने आते हैं। अतः इस नगर को संगमनगरी] कुंभनगरी, तंबूनगरी आदि नामों से भी संबोधित किया जाता है।

हिन्दू मान्यता के अनुसार

अर्थात, प्रयाग में प्रवेश के साथ सभी पाप साफ हो जाते है

सन् 1500 की शताब्दी में मुस्लिम राजा द्वारा इस शहर का नाम प्रयागराज से बदलकर इलाहाबाद किया था जिसे सन् अक्टूबर 2018 में तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने वापस बदलकर प्रयागराज कर दिया।
हिन्दू मान्यता अनुसार, यहां सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा ने सृष्टि कार्य पूर्ण होने के बाद प्रथम यज्ञ किया था। इसी प्रथम यज्ञ के प्र और याग अर्थात यज्ञ से मिलकर प्रयाग बना और उस स्थान का नाम प्रयाग पड़ा जहाँ भगवान श्री ब्रम्हा जी ने सृष्टि का सबसे पहला यज्ञ सम्पन्न किया था। इस पावन नगरी के अधिष्ठाता भगवान श्री विष्णु स्वयं हैं और वे यहाँ वेणीमाधव रूप में विराजमान हैं। भगवान के यहाँ बारह स्वरूप विध्यमान हैं। जिन्हें द्वादश माधव कहा जाता है। सबसे बड़े हिन्दू सम्मेलन महाकुंभ की चार स्थलियों में से एक है, शेष तीन हरिद्वार, उज्जैन एवं नासिक हैं। हिन्दू धर्मग्रन्थों में वर्णित प्रयाग स्थल पवित्रतम नदी गंगा और यमुना के संगम पर स्थित है। यहीं सरस्वती नदी गुप्त रूप से संगम में मिलती है, अतः ये त्रिवेणी संगम कहलाता है, जहां प्रत्येक बारह वर्ष में महा कुंभ मेला लगता है।

Climate

Prayagraj has an all year normal climate. The maximum temperature rises to about 35°C and the minimum temperature falls to about 13°C in March.

Places to visit

Triveni Sangam:
The Triveni Sangam, where the festival takes place, is the meeting place of three rivers: the Saraswati, Yamuna, and Ganga (Ganges).The Triveni Sangam is considered to be a very sacred place in India to Hindus, who believe that taking a dip there will wash away sins and free them from the cycle of rebirth, thereby achieving Moksha.

Akshayavat: Akshayavat or Akshay Vat is a sacred fig tree mentioned in the Hindu mythology. According to a legend, once the sage Markandeya asked Lord Narayana to show him a specimen of the divine power. Narayana flooded the entire world for a moment, during which only the Akshayavat could be seen above the water level.

Alopi Devi Temple: ALOPI Temple is a siddh Temple situated at Alopibag PRAYAGRAJ, Maa ALOPI(Lord Shiva’s wife) last body part is available here. The striking feature of this holy shrine is the wooden cot also known as doli, which is worshiped and not a deity inside the temple.

Patalpuri Temple: Patalpuri Temple is considered to be the holiest shrine in the city of Prayagraj. Located within the complex of Prayagraj Fort, earlier Allahabad Fort, Patalpuri is an underground temple which has great religious significance. As per the folklore, the temple was visited by Lord Rama.

Allahabad Fort: Allahabad Fort is a fort built by the Mughal emperor Akbar at Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India in 1583. The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna near its confluence with the river Ganges.

Bade Hanuman Temple: In this temple adjacent to Prayagraj Fort, a statue of Hanuman is installed. This is the only temple in whole India, in which the image of Hanuman is in a lying down position. This statue is about 20 feet long.

Khusrau Bagh: Khusrau Bagh is a large walled garden and burial complex located in muhalla Khuldabad close to the Allahabad Junction railway station, in Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad), India.

The Prayagraj Museum: The Prayagraj Museum has a rich and diversified collection of art, antiquities, paintings ,sculptures, coins, ceramics, archaeological objects, illustrated manuscripts, farmans, decorative art objects, arm & armours, textiles, natural history specimen, photographs , prints and personalia collections.

Jawahar Planetarium: It takes one on a celestial journey which makes the eyes twinkle like stars. When you look at the ceiling, you feel like you are sitting under the sky and looking above, watching the stars and the moon. The show deals with space, celestial bodies like stars, moon and planets, and many other subjects connected with astronomy.

Chandra Shekhar Azad Park: In 1931, Chandra Shekhar Azad, a revolutionary freedom fighter was engaged in a fierce gun fight with the British in this park. Aged 24, Azad martyred here on 27 February 1931.

Swaraj Bhavan: Swaraj Bhavan is a large mansion located in Prayagraj, India, best known for once being owned by the Indian political leader Motilal Nehru and being home to the Nehru family until 1930. It is managed by the ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund’, Delhi and functions as a museum open to the public.

Ashoka Stambha: Ashoka Stambha, one of the Pillars of Ashoka, erected by Ashoka, Emperor of the Maurya dynasty, who reigned in the 3rd century BCE. While it is one of the few extant pillars that carry his edicts, it is particularly notable for containing later inscriptions attributed to the Gupta emperor Samudragupta (4th century CE).
